We lost our engine off Mullion in July and were towed into Newlyn from where we had left earlier. The harbour couldn't have been more help and more supportive. We weren't charged for the few days we were there as we were a 'casualty' and we managed to fix up delivery of a new engine to Falmouth and then fix up a skipper to help me sail the boat without an engine around to Penryn where the new engine was fitted. Top marks to Newlyn Harbour for all of this - we also were visited by HRH Prince of Wales, now HM King but that's another story. Thanks to everyone.

...but fishing boats have priority. The almanac is correct in that a few berths are kept for yachts. Lots of electric trees now on the pontoon, many of them working, but you need to tell the friendly office staff (a longish walk away) which one you're plugged into so they can turn it on using their partially successful computerised system.

Expensive for what it is, especially given that yachts are not their main business but a convenient port of departure for the Scilly Isles.
We bought a couple of big lemon sole from one of the boats as they were unloading but once they're in the fish market that's not allowed.

Our allotted toilet/shower had a blocked drain rendering it flooded and somewhat disgusting.

I reviewed these notes in April 2022. The RNLI building has been completed and there are toilet and shower facilities for us visitors within. prices have increased a wee bit.

18hr stop over in August 2015 prior to rounding Lands End. Toilet facilities continue to be dire.

These notes were reviewed in March 2014. We understand from the authorities here that there is a changing attitude towards the visiting yachtsman and, although it is still a very busy commercial fishing port, you will find a welcome here these days

23-25/8 – Newlyn – Newlyn is one of the last remaining examples of a fully working port with a large density of fishing vessels in the small harbour. They are more than welcome to have visiting yachts and the thriving harbour and pretty surrounding area makes it great fun to visit although it is very noisy…all the time. It’s a fantastic place to be for the first port back on the south coast !
