Tollesbury - update 2024
Written by Ocean Dancer | 29th Apr 2024
In time for the 2024 season Tollesbury Marina has just completed the first stage of a massive dredging project, spanning berths in the area of pontoons C (south side), D, E and F (west side), where depths are now approximately 10 feet at low water. The marina intends to complete the project around berths on pontoons A, B and C (north side) in winter 24/25. But it's a task that in reality is never finished - nature wants to restore the mud!
Depending on your draught - mine is 1.2 metres - the approaches to Tollesbury are accessible approximately two hours either side of HW. There is a prominent tide gauge at the sill. Boats over 2.0 metres draught are rather constrained at neap tides.
Currently, the Harbour View Bistro has an excellent chef, but do phone ahead and book as the place is really busy at peak times and at weekends.
Tollesbury is as lovely and unchanging as always.

The notes below this by Rupert are for Tollesbury Marina.
Delightful spot

Thoroughly recommended. Reasonable rates, fair facilities and what a lovely atmosphere. A few people staying on board in smart, traditional boats. Picturesque marshes with interesting vessels dotted about. Swimming pool is good, cafe/restaurant is not bad at all. There are further options in the village, which is rather attractive once you reach the centre. Longish bus ride connects you to the rail network. Tiptree jam museum, shop and cafe is well worth a visit. Entrance requires careful planning and study of instructions. There is depth but remain vigilant and try to come in on a rising tide as per. The tide gauge is not that obvious and you do need to read it to get over the sill safely.

I reviewed these notes in May 2022. Very little to change
UPDATE SPRING 2021
Written by Don Thomson 3 | 21st Apr 2021
I reviewed these notes in April 2021. I've added links to various chartlets issued by the relevant marinas and updated prices which remain pretty much the same.
Update Spring 2019
Written by Don Thomson 3 | 2nd Apr 2019
There have been improvements at both Bradwell and Blackwater Marinas. Maldon Little Ships now offers visiting berths at Maldon but need advanced booking. Prices have gone up a little but not vastly different to previous years. The charts have been updated to 2019

Update March 2017
Written by Don Thomson | 22nd Mar 2017
These notes were reviewed by Don in March 2017. We have replaced the charts with this year's charts NB some buoyage has changed in the vicinity of the East Swin and Middle Deep; the Gunfleet Sands Wind Farm farm have been expanded there as well. There have been minor increases in the overnight charges and Tollesbury is now charging £3.50 per night for shore power.

Update 2103
Written by dononshytalk | 28th Mar 2013
These notes were updated by Don T on the 28th March 2013. Where possible I've updated the prices and information has been included on how to contact the Tollesbury Saltings Ltd (who run the mudberths there) It is apparent that the sailing clubs and marinas in these reaches are being improved all the time and these improvements (where known) have been noted in the text.
