Update May 2022
Written by Don Thomson 3 | 27th May 2022
I reviewed these notes in late May 0f 2022. The court ruling on the "village green" status of Mistley Quay has not resolved anything and the developers refuse to budge. Everything else remains the same
UPDATE SPRING 2021

I reviewed these notes in April 2021. Thanks to Fatboyfred (below) for the info on the fence. We'll have to wait and see about yacht mooring.
Mistley Quay

My understanding is that the fence is coming down after legal action however still no yacht mooring. The thorn pub is also worth a visit as it was once the base of the witch finder general

These notes were reviewed in April 2019. Very little has changed and the battle for Mistley Quay continues.

These notes were reviewed by Don in March 2015. We've added a few pictures to the gallery showing the upper reaches my Manningtree and are adding more notes re the availability of moorings and facilities offered by the Stour Sailing Club at Manningtree
tidal stour

Wrabness, there is a shop and pub and station (taking you to Harwich or colchester) only fifteen minutes walk, a very pleasant walk , and you didn't mention manningtree which has a very friendly club, with bar and showers and small beach, If you draw 1.5 meters or less you can get into manningtree for a couple of hours, one hour either side of high water, do your shopping in Tesco and other stores, get fish and chips and have a drink in the local club bar or one of the many pubs. It is also very safe to stay over night as it dries out completely and the club has two visitors moorings. So if the tides are right you could arrive at 8 in the evening, have a walk around and leave at 8 the following morning as you catch the tide out
