These notes were reviewed in April 2019. Prices seem a little arbitrary and they no longer charge for electricity. I've uploaded new charts. The ECM at the entrance to the marina was blown away in the March gales but will be replaced shortly.

I enjoyed two visits to Ardglass this Summer, enroute from Waterford to Campbeltown & on the way back.
As my Westerly Centaur only draws 3ft I had no difficulties.
Fuel is close by, as the local garage/supermarket is only a few hundred yards up the street (to the right).
Nice pub enroute - strangely you would hardly know it was a pub from the outside. Forgotten the name.

I'll be back.

These notes were updated by Don in March 2015. The channel into the marina was dredged in the spring of 2014 and we have provided the latest Admiralty Chart of the harbour which was mentioned in the text of our original entry. They will be increasing prices for 2015 and now charge for shore power & showers.

These notes were reviewed on 1st November 2013 by Don Thomson. Since our original entry (which already drew attention to the discrepancies on charted depths) there have been more groundings and I have included further warnings in the notes. It would appear that the original soundings were incorrect and there has been a recent Admiralty survey which, it is hoped, will correct this. At the moment the Marina advises deep draft vessels not to make an approach an hour either side of LW. (The grounding this summer were at the lowest LWS of the year) Other than that I have updated the prices to the 2013 rates, noted the presence of the slip and addition of WiFi to the facilities.

We spent 3 days here in May 2013. We ate well at the very friendly golf club, Aldo's restaurant and also at the really excellent Chinese. A huge helping of scollops! A golfer we met at the club owned the oil business and sorted us out for diesel. There is a fish factory just out the road (10 min walk) and the owner is a yachtsman. We got 2 huge bags of really fresh monkfish, plaice and some type of flounder for £30. There was a very friendly pub in the square, the name of which escapes me. We had heard about the shallow patches near the entrance so avoided low water entrance/exit. The marina staff were friendly and the facilities of a good standard. We passed 3 pleasant days there waiting for the winds to settle, the rain to stop and the temperature to rise. Life could have been worse.

There was another grounding at ardglass marina yesterday. A yacht sent out a panpan distress call to the coast guard. Please do not try to enter the marina at low water.

My yacht [6 ft draft] and another both grounded when leaving ardglass marina on 22/8/2013.It was on a low spring tide.This happened between the east cardinal mark and the first port hand mark. A sand bank has built up as it has not been dredged since the marina was created 18 years ago.
It was 50 minutes before we were able to move.I have advised the mca about this, as any yacht entering this marina at low water and a ground swell will be put at serious risk.

Brought a Westerly Centaur over from England last summer, stayed at Ardglass for 2 months prior to moving boat to permanent mooring at Warrenpoint. Found the local boaters very welcoming and helpful, and Fred ( Marina caretaker ) always most helpful. Ardglass is highly recommended. Saw visiting boats from Spain, France, Norway and Denmark, as well as ones closer to home. Excellent shower/cooking/relaxing facilities. A welcome awaits in local pubs, and the food at the Golf Club ( no membership required ) is first class, with very reasonable prices. Look nowhere else to eat. I'll be back again and again.

Mariners be warned!

I can concur with the last poster. People with disabilities have very reasonably asked for adjustments in access arrangements at the marina & we have to report here that the management not only have refused to make (DDA) adjustments they have actually refused to even reply to disabled persons correspondence !

Visited Ardglass in July 2012 and was bowled over by the place and the welcome. Entrance was very easy as it is well buoyed. Pontoons are easy to access and the welcome from everyone was terrific. Our thanks to local sailor Gordon who very kindly ran us in his own car in to Downpatrick to try to get a bus connection - outstanding kindness.
At low tide your boat looks as though it is floating in a big puddle but access is 24/7 though.
Eat at the Ardglass Golf Club. Great welcome and a beautiful meal in a beautiful building with a beautiful view - indeed the view from the seat in the Gents loo over the shore and sea towards the Isle of Man must be one of the best views in Ireland.
Really recommend a visit if you are in this part of the world.

I visited Ardglass Marina during August 2011 while undertaking a single handed charity sail around the Irish Sea. Attempting port entry at night is daunting at the best of times, but this one was particularly eye opening as the fishing fleet were very busy at this time of the year. However it is well marked and ok if you take time, slow down and keep a sharp eye for the markers. It is also advisable to study the Almanac, Chart, Irish Sea Pilot to gain a good understanding of the hazards, markers and orientation of the marina before attempting an entry.

I received a very warm welcome from the marina staff the next morning and enjoyed a pleasant two day stay. The facilities are good and there are plenty of places to eat and drink in the village. I would thoroughly recommend a visit to this attractive and friendly harbour.
